Street Law Soars

The final count is not quite in yet but the Center’s outreach coodinator, Holly Fauerso, confirms that the number of Spokane area residents who received free help from Street Law volunteer lawyers this summer approached four hundred, more than a 40 percent increase over 2007. The Center’s Street Law program is a fixture in Riverfront Park on summer Saturdays, with volunteer lawyers lending an ear and offering advice for three hours of an afternoon.
Fifty eight volunteer lawyers helped out with the program this year as did 26 volunteers.
“Participating in this event reminded me that the reason that I am in law school is to gain and use legal skills to better the world around me,” said second year law student and CFJ intern Noah Patterson. “I saw people who would not have otherwise found legal advice receive it freely and obtain referrals to lawyers who can help them best.”
Street Law 2008 wrapped up this past Saturday and will return to Riverfront Park next year, same time, more likely than not, the same place.
