Ask your elected leaders to stop oil train traffic
Take action now and help make a difference by engaging in citizen advocacy! Completing the form below will send the following message to Senators Maria Cantwell and Patty Murray, Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers and Governor Jay Inslee.
“On Friday, June 3rd, a Union Pacific train hauling 96 tank cars of Bakken oil derailed and caught fire, burning for hours and contaminating the Columbia River and the wastewater treatment system for the city of Mosier, Oregon. The stretch of track runs within 300 feet of a school full of students. They, along with many residents, were evacuated.
This derailment is not the first, and it will not be the last. We have all the evidence to show that transport of oil by rail poses a tremendous threat to the safety of our communities and the health of our environment. Lives are at stake, and the oil industry has demonstrated they cannot safely handle their product.
Please stand with the City of Mosier and communities across the Northwest and demand and immediate suspension of oil train traffic through Oregon and Washington. Without a full and thorough investigation of what caused the train to derail, without transparency from railroad companies about inspections and routes, without inspection of all water crossings, and unless these trains can be proven safe, transport of oil by rail must not continue.”
